There’s a really common framing that people defending social media/slop content in general use, which is that “This is people always react to new media”, usually accompanied by some sort of anecdote or newspaper headline stating how the youths are being corrupted by those newfangled books, about how penny fiction is ruining peoples’ ability to understand Shakespeare. If we take this theory to it’s natural conclusion, it is basically saying that it’s unfair to treat any art as ‘better’ or ‘worse’ than any other art, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, ‘Man is the measure of all things’ etc etc.

You can sometimes simply make the choice to be Good, no matter how selfish or ugly or narcissistic it might seem from the inside, because it really doesn’t matter what it feels like from the inside, because the inside is yours and yours alone

The fall of every great civilization comes from the disillusionment of its populace from whatever ideals the civilization seems to inhabit aka it’s vibe. Vibe is just the 21st century makeover of the Hegelian world spirit. Society can only exist as long as it aligns with the prevailing Vibe of the era. When Napoleon was marching into the streets of europe
